The Problem

Customers struggle to find and hire trustworthy local service professionals due to lack of transparency, while service providers face inconsistent job opportunities and payment challenges. These issues reduce trust and create friction throughout the service experience.

Key Insights

Artisans distrust digital payment.

3 out of 4 artisans interviewed had been cheated on payment before, either bounced transfers or customers denying payment after service. An in-app wallet with escrow logic would solve this.

Pricing confusion kills conversions.

Customers abandon when they can't see pricing before booking. The informal market has no standards, which creates sticker shock and distrust.

Worrying if the handyman will show up as promised

Every customer mentioned anxiety about not knowing when (or if) a provider would show up. "I just sit there waiting and calling" is a direct qoute.

Providers have zero visibility into their own income.

None of the artisans I spoke with tracked their earnings. They operated day by day with no earnings history, no invoicing, and no record of work done.

Trust is the #1 barrier for customers.

5 out of 6 interviewees said they would only hire someone a friend or family member had used before. No verification = no booking.
